Senior Director - Sustainability

The Senior Director on ASG’s Sustainability practice will manage several client engagements and play an integral role in the development of the practice. The successful candidate will have extensive experience and recognized expertise in sustainability and climate change policy; standards, reporting, and trends; as well as technical knowledge in at least one subject matter area under the sustainability umbrella. The Senior Director will also have significant experience working internally in one or more companies on sustainability commitments and activities, and/or engaging businesses, foundations, or nonprofits on environmental or social issues.

Responsibilities:

Management

• Manages the day-to-day work of ASG client teams, focusing on adding value for the clients and profitability
• Manages team members’ workflow and oversees the production of deliverables
• Supports less experienced team members’ professional development
• Supports the practice lead and senior staff to cultivate and integrate senior counselors, advisors and consultants, with a focus on engaging them in business development and client service

Client Service and Business Development

• Serves as client lead, focused on impact for clients and client retention
• Anticipates sustainability trends and issues to inform strategy discussions with clients and provide recommendations for best courses of action that increase clients’ positive impact and add and protect economic value
• Conducts and translates complex information into accessible content for clients (e.g. presentations, reports, or issue briefs)
• Develops and deploys sustainability frameworks for effective client service
• Grows expertise on main issues affecting clients and contributes relevant subject matter knowledge to clients, the practice, and the Firm
• Supports efforts to position the Sustainability practice as a “thought leader”
• Monitors all ASG current client activity for opportunities to expand sustainability work
• Networks in the broad sustainability community to identify potential partnerships to meet ongoing client needs and creatively build new business for the Firm

Qualifications:

• Minimum of eight to ten years prior work experience in a sustainability, corporate responsibility, or ESG role in a corporate setting
• MA in sustainability, business, public policy, or related field, or equivalent experience
• Significant knowledge of corporate sustainability, global sustainable development, and ESG issues
• Demonstrated ability to manage client engagements, client relationships, and provide “thought leadership”
• Strong analytical and research skills, including ability to analyze and interpret data
• Strong business and financial acumen
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects while prioritizing deliverables and meeting demanding deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, meeting facilitation and presentations
• Highly proficient in PowerPoint and other MS Office tools
